The Consumer Guide for Tanning Beds & Tanning Lamps

Tanning Bed Lamps (Bulbs)

Tanning lamps, also called tanning bed bulbs, are the long UV lights inside of a tanning bed that produce tanning rays. The primary manufacturer of tanning lamps today is Wolff. The codes used to designate lamps can be confusing. Here is an example, with each part explained: F71-T12-100W/BP 5.0, where:

 • F71 designates length, in inches. So F71 is 71" in length.
 • T12 designated diameter, in 1/8" steps. So T12 is 12 x 1/8 = 1.5" in diameter.
 • 100W designates wattage of the lamp.
 • BP designates the end connector type, in this case Bi-pin. The other type is RDC.
 • 5.0 designates the percent ratio of UVB to UVA rays produced.
